PACCAR MX (2004 Emissions) Fault Code: P1352 VTG Turbocharger Actuator Learning – Malfunction Detected
CAUTION: This DTC is activated when a position deviation of the VTG turbocharger mechanism is detected.
DO NOT re-calibrate the turbocharger actuator with the diagnostic service tool before the cause of this DTC is identified and solved.
Re-calibration may lead to incorrect calibration of the turbocharger actuator end-positions, which will result in a decrease of engine performance and engine brake performance.
SET CONDITIONS:
The VTG turbo charger actuator (L037) cannot reach the end-stops during the learn sweep after the ignition is keyed on.
DIAGNOSTIC CONDITION:
This diagnostic runs once after the ignition is keyed on.
CORRESPONDING OBD READINESS MONITOR:
None
RESET CONDITION:
This DTC will change to inactive after the ignition is keyed off and on again and the diagnostic runs and passes.
REPAIR VERIFICATION:
1. Clear all DTCs.
2. Test drive or operate the vehicle to meet the diagnostic conditions and set conditions.
3. Did the DTC come back?
– No, repair successful
– Yes, repair unsuccessful
POSSIBLE CAUSES:
1. Frozen turbocharger. Due to the presence of moisture and cold ambient conditions the turbocharger nozzle ring mechanism may have been frozen temporarily.
2. Soot build-up on the turbocharger nozzle ring mechanism
3. After an actuator installation: VTG turbocharger actuator initialization procedure was not executed or was executed incorrectly.
4. Sticking turbocharger nozzle ring (bend vanes), faulty nozzle ring mechanism or actuator
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
1. The position and effort to move the VTG turbocharger nozzle ring are monitored by the actuator.
2. After the ignition is keyed on, a learn sweep is performed by the actuator. During this sweep the VTG turbocharger nozzle ring is fully opened and fully closed to check the end positions.
3. The actuator can only control the nozzle ring in a limited span with this fault active.
